Objectives:
The athletics program at Sunridge Primary School is undertaken for the educational value of the school that recognizes the life lesson that athletes/learners can learn through participating from Grade 1 to Grade 7.
Sunridge emphasizes the value of each individual and the respect for others. We strive for teamwork, sportsmanship, personal commitment and fair play.
Our objectives are therefore to:
- Provide the best possible sporting experience for all Sunridge learners to encourage lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.
- Provide supportive environments for enjoyable participation in a wide variety of physical activities, through the development of skills and good sporting behavior.
- Provide the safest possible environment for the conduct of sport.
- Provide for the allocation of appropriate resources and facilities.
- Provide opportunities for all pupils to participate in sport.
- Encourage and actively cater for talented sporting pupils.
- Promote the playing of sport for enjoyment with participation and excellence at every level.
Activities and Events:
Athletics takes place during the first and fourth term, unless otherwise arranged. A winter training program is available for the athletes to keep fit during the winter season. At every practice attendance is taken.
The following items/events are offered at Sunridge Primary School: Hurdles, sprints, high jump, long jump, shot put, long distances and Javelin (u/12 and u/13).
Sunridge Primary School also tours to George to take part in the Kwagga top 10, held by Outeniqua Higschool.
Numerous of our Sunridge athletes also participate, in their own time, in various events such as biathlon, road races and achieved wonderful results.
