Annual report - 2014

2014 saw many learners and qualified coaches form part of the Sunridge athletics team. Many of our athletes excelled at the interschool’s and Bay Gas Primary Schools athletics challenge.  The highlight of the 2014 season was the privilege of entering the hurdle events. Overall our athletes did very well and we are really building up a strong athletics team for the future.

We also had our Interhouse athletics meeting in November.  Many boys and girls represented their houses:  Diaz, Donkin and Algoa in various track and field events.  We achieved great results and even broke some records.  Thank you to all the supporters and athletes who participated; your behaviour and enthusiasm showed and made the day worthwhile.

We also had athletes who participated in various biathlon and road race events in their own time.  Most of them received their EP-colours.  We are very proud of these athletes.

Our 2014 athletics season was well attended and enjoyed by all.

“Somewhere behind the athlete you’ve become and the hours of practice and the coaches who have pushed you is a little girl who fell in love with the game and never looked back… play for her.”– Mia Hamm

In 2015 we had many events ranging from our Interhouse-, Inter Schools-  through to the Bay Gas Invitational Meetings.

We also had athletes that, apart from being a part of the Sunridge athletics team, participated in various biathlon and road race events in their own time.  Most of them received their EP-colours.  We are very proud of those athletes.

Our coaches teach not only the skills of the sport, but also the skills of life to make sure our athletes develop positive behaviours and habits, and  to explore their ambitions and dreams.

Once again our athletes did us proud.

Annual report - 2016

“The glory of sport comes from dedication, determination and desire. Achieving success and personal glory in athletics has less to do with wins and losses than it does with learning how to prepare yourself, so that at the end of the day you know that there was nothing more you could have done to reach your ultimate goal"  Jackie Joyner-Kersnee

In 2016 we had many events that took place, from our Interhouse-,Inter Schools-  through to the Bay Gas Invitational Meetings. Our Athletes achieved wonderful results. In 2016 we had two learners, Clarise Moolman and Jared Rees, that achieved Eastern Provincial Colours.

We had 65 athletes that took part in the first athletics meeting, Dirk Brand  Athletics meeting, on the 6th of February 2016.  Twenty of these athletes went through to the next round, PE West Athletics meeting which took place on the 13th of February 2016.  There they performed well and 15 of our learners advanced to the next meeting. The Metro Athletics meeting took place on the 20th of February 2016, where all our athletes performed very well.
Eight of our athletes went through to the Eastern Cape Championships and Clarise Moolman and Jared Rees went through to the National Championships.

We also had athletes that, apart from being a part of Sunridge athletics team participated in various biathlon and road race events in their own time and achieved great results.

This year we were privileged enough to receive new Bay-Gas Athletics clothes which looked really smart on our learners. We also achieved wonderful results in the Bay Gas Athletics Championship, on the 5th of November 2016. We received 12 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 11 bronze medals overall. This is the best Sunridge has done at this event since it started in 2014.

The Interhouse Athletics that took place on  the 4th of November 2016 and was a great success. The only problem that we encountered was the amount of learners that were absent.
The awards for the Interhouse  Athletics was as follows:

Houses: Diaz (1st), Algoa (2nd) and Donkin (3rd)

Victrix Lodorum: Clarise Moolman

Victor Lodorum:  CJ Vermaak
